Introducing The Busy in Me: Children’s Books for the Moments That Feel Big

The Busy in Me children’s book series by Lisa Vivian, featuring When My Backpack Comes Off and When Plans Change in a cozy reading nook.

When I became a grandmother for the first time, I knew I wanted to create something special.

Something memorable. Something useful. Something a child could hold onto.

That little idea eventually became My Granny’s Bookshelf — and from there, something I hadn’t originally planned began to take shape.

The Busy in Me Series

As I started creating, I found myself remembering some of the everyday challenges from my own years as a busy mom.

Coming home after a long day.

Plans changing unexpectedly.

Too much noise, too much activity, too much happening all at once.

They can seem like ordinary moments to an adult, but for a child, they can feel very big.

And that became the heart of The Busy in Me.

These aren’t books about labels.

They’re books about moments.

Moments when a child needs a little more time.

A little more quiet.

A little reassurance.

Or simply an adult who understands that what may look small from the outside can feel enormous on the inside.

Meet the First Two Books

The series begins with two everyday experiences that many families will recognize.

The Busy in Me: When My Backpack Comes Off

After a full day at school, sometimes a child doesn’t arrive home ready to talk, answer questions or jump into the next part of the day.

Sometimes they simply need time to land.

When My Backpack Comes Off follows that transition from school to home and the small, comforting routine that helps the busy begin to settle.

The Busy in Me: When Plans Change

Plans don’t always go the way we expect them to — and for children, that disappointment can feel especially difficult.

When Plans Change explores what happens when an anticipated day suddenly looks different, and how a little patience, creativity and time can help a child adjust.

Stories Children Can See Themselves In

One of the things that matters most to me about this series is that the child is never defined by a diagnosis or a label.

The stories simply meet children where they are.

Because many children know what it feels like when everything becomes too much, when a transition is hard, or when they need a little extra time to find their footing again.

And sometimes it helps to see that experience reflected in a story.

The Bookshelf Is Just Beginning

What began as a grandmother wanting to create something meaningful has grown into a collection of stories about childhood, family and those everyday moments that can feel much bigger than they appear.

The first two books in The Busy in Me series are now part of My Granny’s Bookshelf, with more stories to come.

Because sometimes the most useful thing we can give a child is not an answer.

It’s the feeling of being understood.
